Overview
The Butler County Historical Society collects, preserves, and interprets Butler County’s rich heritage for the educational benefit of the public. The Society was founded in 1927, when a group of residents met to discuss ways to preserve local history. In 1960, it was incorporated as a private non-profit entity. In 1991, it was designated the official historical organization of Butler County. At its office, the Society maintains a resource library of historical records and documents relating to the county that can be used by the public for research. The Society also owns and operates three historic sites: Cooper Cabin Pioneer Homestead, the Little Red School House, and the Senator Walter Lowrie House.
