Welcome back osprey!
The female (Mom) returned on March 19th and the male (Dad) returned on March 22nd. We usually see Dad return to the nest first but we assume that he was slowed down due to the bad storms in the south during his migration back home.
Several sticks have already been brought to the nest by both Mom and Dad as they gear up for their nesting season. It is fascinating to watch them bring in nesting material and move it around just right for Mom to lay eggs in. Dad has brought in a few of his favorite corn husks along with two pieces of garbage, but both pieces of garbage are no longer in the nest. This shows how important it is to keep the park clean and free of any littler!
Mating has already begun, and the eggs normally arrive mid-April. Keep an eye out for those babies! As always, the live cam chat is updated with the osprey's activity throughout the day, that way you don't miss anything!
